With the changing of the seasons, I have the need to move clothes from my closet to match the season. It’s time to rid myself of the things I have not worn for at least two years—that is “the rule.” The problem is I haven’t done it for years! So I called in an expert to help me. Josh had met Jenny Greenstein through his wife Tracey when the two women worked together at Ann Taylor, the women’s fashion chain. Jenny and Tracey had left the company, and Jenny created a company “Your Soul Style.” Josh had used her talent to style the fashion shoot for our college magazine Aspire. He was very impressed and recently asked her to judge the fashion designers at the LIC Flea and help choose the winner. When I complained to my daughter-in-law Tracey that I was overwhelmed with going through my closets she suggested I call her friend Jenny for help. So I did. When Jenny arrived, she questioned me for about half an hour about my lifestyle. Since I work every day I have collected clothes for everyday life, then there are the events I go to in the evening and the more formal ones too. With the weekends I have a collection of sportswear from jeans to sweats accumulated over the years. Since my size has remained pretty consistent I’ve added items in each category but not eliminated. So it all accumulates and a cleansing was long overdue. I did it for hours with Jenny’s guidance! By the time we finished four hours later I was exhausted, but five bags of clothes were ready to be donated to the local junior league. It felt so calming to truly cleanse my closet. Dolly (third from right, back row) with our WOW sisters, at my wedding It was with a heavy heart that I visited dearest friend Dolly DeThomas with Claire Shulman and Debby Markell. We were going to say goodbye to our “sister” now in hospice. She looked so beautiful and peaceful, with her cancer pain under control. Her daughters are treating her like a queen having her in their home watched over day and night, and it warmed my heart that they had pooled their resources so Dolly could be home with them until the end of her life. Dolly was always so loving that we called her “our angel.” When she headed human resources and public relations at the Crowne Plaza LaGuardia she made us all feel like it was our home away from home. Dolly loved everyone and we love her! The stars sparkled brightly For the past 10 years I have been publishing El Correo, our Spanish language community newspaper. It’s distributed in Queens and Brooklyn and has a readership similar to The Queens Courier: people who care about their community and want to know what’s happening in it. Our company started the paper to serve that growing community. Since we have developed our events I wanted to pay respect and acknowledge the successful Latino Stars from around the city, and so our first event “Latino Stars” was born and did we have a blast! It was a magical night as we acknowledged leaders in the media, my mentor and hero Geraldo Rivera. My favorite Channel 5 weatherman Mike Woods and the beautiful traffic reporter on Channel 5 Ines Rosales helped me honor the political, civic and business leaders in the overflowing ballroom at Terrace on the Park.
