Bushwick Film Festival to celebrate 10th anniversary

Th e Bushwick Film Festival (BFF) is
celebrating 10 years of diversity in fi lm
with 40 events at 10 diff erent venues over
the span of four days, kicking off with
the 2017 Bushwick Film Festival opening

On Th ursday, Oct. 12, the 2017 BFF will
offi cially commence its 10th anniversary
with a red carpet ceremony at 6:30 p.m.
at House of Yes, located at 2 Wyckoff Ave.
on the Ridgewood/Bushwick border.
Th e opening night of the festival
will feature the world premiere of “In
Case of Emergency,” a fi lm directed by
Stefanie Sparks. “In Case of Emergency”
is described as a “humorous, gross-out
look at the pains we take to fi t in and the
pointlessness of perfection.”
Once the credits roll in the fi lm, ticket
holders will be treated to an exclusive
aft er-party.
Th e party doesn’t stop there, however.
On Friday, Oct. 13, BFF will get into
the Halloween spirit as they will showcase
seven short horror fi lms at Lot 45, located
at 411 Troutman St., starting at 6.m.
Select ticket holders will also get to join
festival fi lmmakers, actors, writers, producers,
festival crew and industry professionals
at the Industry Happy Hour
party at Th e Rookery Bar, located at 425
Troutman St., from 8 to 10 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 14 will feature a slew of
short fi lms at the “Short Films: Westerns,
Space Odysseys, Social Th rillers, etc.” event
at LightSpace Studios New York, located at
1115 Flushing Ave., from 4:45 to 6:25 p.m.
Th e day continues with the serious and
raw story “Whose Streets?” which delves
into the events that took place aft er the
fatal shooting of Michael Brown by police
offi cers in Ferguson, Mo. Th is fi lm will be
shown at Chemistry Creative, located at
305 Ten Eyck St., from 7 to 8:45 p.m.
Both of Saturday’s screenings will be
accompanied by complimentary drink
specials and of course Bushwick’s Braven
Brewing Beer, as well as a choice of red
or white wine from Brooklyn Oenology.
Kicking off the festivities for Sunday,
Oct. 15 is “Sea to Shining Sea,” directed
by Maximón Monihan, which showcases
a cross-country trip with two unlikely
friends. “Sea to Shining Sea” will be featured
at Syndicated Bar Th eater Kitchen,
located at 40 Bogart St., at 3:15 p.m.
Th e BFF wraps up with an awards ceremony
at Syndicated from 7 to 9 p.m.
Th roughout the entirety of the festival,
there will be more screenings, discussion
panels and parities.

of Queens, we have a contest that’ll make you smile in
a fl ash.
Th e Queens Courier and the New York City Department
of Parks and Recreation are teaming up to present the
“Salute to People in Queens Parks” photo contest. We’re
looking for photographers of all levels to submit their
best photos people enjoying themselves of Queens parks.
Th e contest is divided into two categories: groups and
individuals. It will showcase men, women and children
enjoying everything that Queens parks has to off er.
Each category has 12 fi nalists, and all fi nalists will have
their pictures on display at the Queens Museum as part of
a special exhibit. One fi nalist from each category will be
selected as overall fi nalists for the grand prize: a $100 gift
card to a fi ne dining establishment in Queens. Th e second
overall fi nalist will receive a $75 dining gift card, and
the third overall fi nalist will receive a $50 dining gift card.
Th e “Salute to People in Queens Parks” photo contest is
open now; all entries must be sent via email to editorial@
qns.com (subject: Salute to People in Queens Parks) or
on our Instagram page, www.instagram.com/QNSgram
with the hashtag, #salutetoqueensparks. All entries must
be submitted by Friday, Oct. 13, 2017.
