Community comes together to celebrate
the opening of the LeFrak City Courtyards
Th e community came together on
Saturday, Sept. 23 to celebrate the grand
opening of Th e Courtyards at the 40 acre
campus of LeFrak City. Le Frak City is
located in Corona, Queens and home to
over 14,000 residents. Th e Courtyard is
divided into 3 areas: West, Center and
East, and sometimes is referred to as Th e
Quads.
Residents of LeFrak City will fi nd many
recreational activities in Th e Courtyards,
including a seasonal pool off ering day
passes, full sized basketball and tennis
courts (and a half- sized court for younger
kids), a multi-use turf fi eld, a mini golf
putting green, and playgrounds and swing
sets throughout. Gaming tables are also a
highlight, with ping pong, foosball, chess
and checkers for a competitive or friendly
match. A huge turf lawn lawn is the centerpiece
of the courtyard, and when complete
will have a picnic gazebo and splash
pad area for water play. Th e Courtyards
also feature two ping pong tables, chess/
checkers tables, a playground with swing
sets, and a foosball table.
“We’re trying to make things better for
the people who live here and we want to
see what we can do moving forward,”
said a representative of LeFrak City
Maintenance Services. “Residents are
very excited about the Courtyard amenities.”
To celebrate the opening, an estimated
4,500 community members and LeFrak
City residents came out to enjoy a day
of fun in the newly opened Courtyards.
A number of dignitaries were in attendance
at this event, including Queens
Borough President Melinda Katz,
Senator Jose Peralta, and Councilman
Jeff rion L. Aubry. Jamie LeFrak, who
came and represented the LeFrak family,
and David Bernhardt, theLeFrak City
General Manager met and talked with
people from the community.
Th roughout the day, residents could
participate in a number of activities,
including face painting, craft s, tie-dying,
and balloon animals. Th e new
sports fi elds were also open for kids to
play and there were Queens-based food
vendors and live music throughout the
event.
LeFrak City also partnered with
Mad Science, a New York City-based
group that focuses on making education
entertaining, with a specifi c focus
on the sciences. Kids who came to the
event were able to make and take home
their very own silly putty. Super Soccer
Stars, a group that unique programs for
kids that teach soccer skills in a fun,
non-competitive, educational environment,
were on site running drills and
games with the kids.
