P.O. Kenneth Healey suffered critical injuries to his head after being attacked while on duty in Jamaica in October 2014. Paramedics rushed him to Jamaica Hospital, where he received life-saving treatment from the Trauma Team. He has since returned to active duty with the NYPD and received the department’s Medal of Honor. Healey shared his experiences at Jamaica Hospital during an Aug. 12 ceremony marking the hospital’s status as a Level 1 trauma center, as designated by the American College of Surgeons. The ACS rated the Trauma Team with a defi ciency free score on its trauma verifi cation survey. More than 1,700 patients receive treatment from the Jamaica Hospital Trauma Team each year; the team is one of the busiest of its kind in New York City.
