Cyclists tour Flushing, Bayside and more in 20-mile ride

About 200 cyclists joined together to
take a grand tour of Queens that ended in
bustling downtown Flushing last weekend.
Th e “Tour de Flushing,” a 20-mile bicycle
ride, kicked off in front of the world
famous Unisphere in Flushing Meadows-
Corona Park and ended at the old Quaker
Meeting House in downtown Flushing.
Th e July 22 event was free and open to
the public.
Th e grand tour explored the greatest
parks, streets and spots throughout
Corona, Fresh Meadows, Oakland
Gardens, Bayside and Flushing.
Riders were also notifi ed about certain
noteworthy landmarks along the way,
including West Alley Road, a path George
Washington himself traveled upon on his
tour of Long Island, and the “Queens
Giant” tree, the oldest living thing in
New York City.
Th e event was organized by
the Transportation Alternatives
Eastern Queens Committee, the
Greater Flushing Chamber of
Commerce and Eastern Queens
Greenway.
