Barber found shot
to death in his car
Police are investigating the death of a
local barber who was shot on a corner
of a Springfi eld Gardens street early on
Tuesday morning.
At 12:15 a.m. on July 25, police responded
to a 911 call of a man shot at the corner
of South Conduit Avenue and Lansing
Avenue.
Upon arriving at the scene, they found
32-year-old Zanu Simpson of 193rd Street
in St. Albans in the driver’s seat of a BMW
X5, unconscious and unresponsive, with
gunshot wounds to the head.
EMS responded to the scene and transported
Simpson to Jamaica Hospital,
where he was pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made as of press
time. Th e investigation is ongoing.

Bayside man hit by
bus in Forest Hills
Running back into the street to get his
fallen skateboard proved to be a deadly
decision for a Bayside man who was fatally
struck by a bus on the Forest Hills on
Friday night, police said.
At approximately 6:27 p.m. on July 21,
offi cers responded to a 911 call of a motor
vehicle collision involving a pedestrian on
the southbound Union Turnpike near the
Grand Central Parkway.
Upon their arrival, they found 25-yearold
Kevin Zeng, of Bell Boulevard in
the Oakland Gardens section of Bayside,
lying in the road with head trauma. EMS
responded to the scene and transported
Zeng to Jamaica Hospital, where he was
later pronounced dead.
An investigation by the NYPD Highway
District’s Collision Investigation Squad
found that a NYC MTA bus was traveling
southbound in the right center lane of
Union Turnpike. As the bus approached
the vicinity of Grand Central Parkway,
Zeng was walking northbound on the
designated sidewalk, located on the west
side of the four travel lanes.
As Zeng was walking, he dropped the
skateboard that he was carrying and
chased it into the right center lane, putting
himself in the direct path of the bus.
Th e bus operator attempted to steer left
to avoid Zeng, but Zeng continued into
the bus’s path and was struck by the front
right passenger side of the bus.

Astoria man busted for
selling tainted heroin
A 45-year-old Astoria man was arrested
for possessing and selling heroin laced
with Fentanyl, which led to two non-fatal
overdoses.
According to Queens District Attorney
Richard A. Brown, Bernard Lewis, with
the help of a Corona man who was
recently arrested, was selling the drug
around the borough and was stashing his
supply at home.
According to investigators, Lewis had
telephone conversations with six people
between April 6 and June 17 who asked to
purchase heroin. Investigators arrested all
six buyers and seized the drugs to chemically
analyze them and found Fentanyl in
the product.
On May 9, Lewis’ associate Hubert
Harris, a 66-year-old man from Corona,
called him to request more drugs. He
went to Lewis’ Astoria home and spent
approximately 45 minutes inside. Soon
aft er, NYPD’s Queens North Narcotics
Division stopped Harris on the corner of
41st Road and 12th street.
Th ey found 98 glassine envelopes and
he was charged with third- and seventh
degree criminal possession of a controlled
substance, third-degree criminal
sale of a controlled substance and resisting
arrest.
On July 19, investigators searched
Lewis’ house in Astoria and found a rock
of Fentanyl; a box with empty glassine
envelopes; a spoon with Fentanyl residue;
two large plastic bags containing
more than 750 glassine envelopes with
Fentanyl; and $2,900 in cash.
A second search warrant on Catrice
Brown, Lewis’ wife, was executed and
police found several containers with marijuana
and a marijuana cigarette in her
car.
Lewis and Brown were variously
charged with criminal possession of a
controlled substance, criminal sale of a
controlled substance, conspiracy, reckless
endangerment and criminally using drug
paraphernalia. Th ey are due back in court
on Aug. 4.
Crooks sought for
Queens rental scam
Police are looking for three suspects
who allegedly used social media to carry
out a rental scam in Jackson Heights,
East Elmhurst and Flushing that swindled
would-be tenants out of thousands
of dollars in cash.
In the fi rst incident on April 1, an
unidentifi ed individual and a 40-yearold
victim met in front of 77-01 31st
Ave. in Jackson Heights. Th e victim gave
the perpetrator a $1,400 deposit.
On April 21, a 25-year-old victim met
with an individual in front of 41-62 70th
St., also in Jackson Heights, and gave
him a deposit of $1,800.
In a third incident on April 23, another
victim met with an individual at 94-22
Jackson Mill Road in East Elmhurst and
handed him a $1,800 deposit.
On June 6, the latest incident, a victim
met with an individual in front of 137-
58 Northern Blvd. in Flushing and gave
him a deposit of $1,500.
In each instance, an unidentifi ed perpetrator,
who posed as a homeowner
of an alleged apartment for rent on
Facebook, met with a victim at an agreed
upon location. Th e suspect provided a
set of keys and a receipt for the deposit.
Aft er receiving the deposit money, the
individual fl ed to parts unknown. Th e
victim would then arrive at the respective
apartment and realize the home was
already occupied.
