St. Michael’s Cemetery Presents
Scott Joplin was interred at
St. Michael’s Cemetery on April 5th 1917.
Open To The Public
For 15 years the, annual Scott Joplin Memorial Concerts have been hosted by St. Michael’s Cemetery, the composer’s
resting place. This year’s concert will be held on May 18, 2 pm; rain or shine.
This year, we have a hot jazz group presenting a style that evolved out of ragtime. Performing the music will be
Dalton’s Uptown Ramblers, an ensemble of five world-famous jazz stars: • Dalton Ridenhour, the pianist and leader.
He is one of the most active and sought-after jazz and band pianists. • Jon-Erik Kellso, trumpet. He has made more
than 100 recordings and can be heard on many movie and TV soundtracks, such as The Aviator and Boardwalk
Empire.• Evan Arntzen, clarinet. He mastered later jazz styles and has given star performances throughout the U.S.,
Europe, and Japan. • Joe McDonough, trombone. Has been featured with the Boston Pops Orchestra and has played
with such major jazz groups as those of Herbie Hancock and Clark Terry. • Bob Sacchi, tuba. He is principal tuba player
with the New Jersey Wind Symphony, one of the major wind ensembles.

Ed Berlin, the concert series director, will give a
pre-concert talk in the chapel at 1:30.
His topic, in keeping with the theme of this year’s
concert, is the transition from ragtime to jazz.
