Chair Yoga for Seniors Ages 55-Plus - The Middle Village Adult Center
has Chair Yoga with Debbi, a special fitness event for seniors. This
event is perfect for adults over the age of 55. Hosted in Forest Park
Seuffert Bandshell, participants can get some fresh air in the beautiful
outdoors while they do the calming and uplifting exercise with an
experienced instructor.

Beautification Day at Moore-Jackson Cemetery - It’s a week after Earth
Day, but that doesn’t mean we get to stop caring about the environment.
On Saturday, celebrate spring and the revitalization project with
their 2nd Annual Moore-Jackson Cemetery Beautification Day. Along
with other Queens residents, venture to the Farmhouse side and plant
flowers and herbs while cleaning up. The all day event will also have
activities for children of all ages including story time and free face
painting. The Beautification Day will have a bake sale to support the
ongoing community effort. If the event is rained out, it will be rescheduled
for May 11.

Sunnyside - The Queens Library at
Sunnyside has free poetry classes
for residents of Queens. Put on by
Newtown Literary Alliance, the classes
have experienced and published
instructors to guide participants. This
week’s instructor, Jared Harél, is the
author of “Go Because I Love You”
and “The Body Double.” This Saturday,
the workshop will be around “The
Busy Metaphor.” Participants will write
and analyze poetry centered around
this theme. They will also reflect on
what objects fill their days and put
those to use as metaphors for their

Design in the Ballad of
Buster Scruggs - Learn about the
costume design for the Ballad
of Buster Scruggs, a six-part
Western anthology movie about
the American west by Ethan Coen
and Joel Coen. It is their most recent
movie released on Netflix. The film
has been praised by notable publications
such as The New York Times and
The Washington Post. Common Sense
Media described the Coen brothers
film as “character-rich, strikingly photographed,
with occasional humor
(often irreverent) and deft moments
of poignancy, the uniquely talented
Coen Brothers add another gem to

Movie - Come to the New York Hall
of Science to experience the “Flight
of the Butterflies,” a 3-D movie
that takes visitors on a treacherous
yet captivating journey. In the
3-D theater, visitors are a part of the
monarch butterfly’s journey. Visitors
watch their migration patterns closely,
witnessing thousands fly through the
peaks of Mexico. Experience what 40
years of research looks like to find the
monarch butterfly’s secret hideaway.
The Washington Post described the
3-D film as “engrossing.” The exhibit
will run until June 30, 2019.

Tuesday, the Middle Village Adult
Center has organized Zumba and
Pilates for seniors. The program will
give participants over the age of 55
the chance to experience Latin style
dance. The fitness program integrates
high- and low-intensity components
within the workout to create a calorie
burning dance party. Have fun while

Daughter Installation at
The Queens Museum - “Relative
Fields in a Garden,” a multimedia
season installation, is at The
Queens Museum. This exhibition
features an artistic mother-daughter
collaboration. Created by mother Liz
Philips and daughter Heidi Howard,
this 40-foot wall combines Howard’s
vivid portrait with Philips’ sound work,
which creates interactive sound fields.
As a part of the museum’s large wall
series, the museum has featured yearlong
commissions by women-identified
artists. Visit the exhibition while
it lasts.

exercise and dance. Instructed by

Senior for one of their weekly events,
Rhythm’s Gonna Get You. The center
offers a range of activities, which
include lunches, social services, educational
workshops, exercise classes,
discussion groups, games, art classes,
lectures, workshops, health screenings,
organized outings, special events
