QUESTION: N o r t h e a s t Queens has a very poor transportation infrastructure. There is an express bus line the QM2 to midtown Manhattan, but nothing going downtown to Wall Street or the Lower East Side/ Meatpacking District. Also, to get from northeast Queens to Queens College, one would have to take two long bus rides. Is there any way to shorten the ride? I live near the Q15 and Q15A. ANSWER: Thank you for your question. We always look to New Yorkers to gain f e e d b a c k on how to improve our transportation system. Ask the MAYOR That’s why we decided to revamp the Q44 SBS, which will connect to Queens College faster and more efficiently. We always look forward to the input of New Yorkers, and we will work with the MTA in any way we can to create better, more efficient and faster commutes across the five boroughs. Stoddart replaced Tonya Cantlo- Cockfield, who has served as board member since 2002 and as board chair since 2013. Stoddart has served on the board of directors since 2014 and comes with a wealth of expertise and knowledge of nonprofit organizations, the arts, fundraising and economic developments in Queens County. “Jamaica Center for Arts & Culture is a cornerstone of this vibrant neighborhood, with exciting programming that engages residents and draws visitors from across the city. Michelle Stoddart will bring new energy to this organization with her a wealth of experience working with communities in southeast Queens,” said Tom Finkelpearl, commissioner of the city Department of Cultural Affairs. “I have known her for many years and believe her track record of community engagement and leadership will be invaluable as JCAL moves forward to expand its programs and services for artists and residents in Queens and NYC.” Stoddart said after the election, “I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as chair of an organization with a dynamic history of presenting cutting-edge performance, visual and literary programs.” Stoddart serves as the director of public relations and community development for Resorts World Casino New York City (RWNY). In her role, she coordinates public relations and social media messaging, and she’s responsible for the implementation of community outreach and for charitable giving. Prior to her position with RWNY, Stoddart was the director of marketing and tourism for the Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC). During her tenure at QEDC, Stoddart initiated and enhanced several significant QEDC projects. She spearheaded the redesign of DiscoverQueens.info, the first county-based tourism website in the city; and Queens Restaurant Week, a two-week event that expanded from 30 to 120 Queens-based participating restaurants. Stoddart holds a BA in journalism from Baruch College in New York City. The Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning (JCAL), founded in 1972, is a multidisciplinary arts organization based in the diverse community of southeast Queens. As a member of CIGs, JCAL has historically supported the creation and presentation of local, emerging, cutting edge and established artists. JCAL devotes its mission to offering quality visual, performing and literary arts, arts education and artist programs to encourage participation in the arts and to contribute to the cultural enrichment of Queens and the Greater Metropolitan area. Under JCAL’s management, the state-of-theart performance venue Jamaica Performing Arts Center (JPAC) showcases local, regional and national artists and performers.
