Their latest project, known as ‘JamaicaFlux: Workspaces & Windows’ has brought in a culturally diverse group of artists, to participate in a sort of Renaissance within Jamaica. Through an array of site-specific works, JamaicaFlux aims to create a more conducive space in which residents can more easily appreciate the value of the streets that surround them. Among those in attendance at the announcement were Assemblywoman Alicia Hyndman, City Councilman Rory Lancman, and Congressman Gregory W. Meeks, all of whom shared their support for the program. Lawmakers and business representatives alike continued to emphasize this sense of pride for Jamaica. The beauty and uniqueness of the area and this project, is hoped to inspire people to realize their talents and the value of where they come from, in order to potentially become leaders in their own right. The JamaicaFlux: Workspaces and Windows project, sponsored by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, features works from 19 different artists who have used their talents to enrich various locations within Downtown Jamaica. As a starting point, these artists traveled throughout Jamaica to better understand what ideas residents had and proceeded to transform them into neighborhood artworks.
