An Infiniti sedan, driven by 28-year-old Sharlene Numa, of Roosevelt, N.Y., was traveling eastbound down the parkway about 4:15 a.m. on Monday, April 14, when she rear-ended a Mercedes near Springfield Boulevard and Merrick Boulevard, officials said. Her car then overturned around South Conduit Avenue and Brookville Boulevard. The driver of the Mercedes, an 18-year-old man, was taken to Franklin Hospital in stable condition, according to police. Both occupants of the second vehicle were taken to Jamaica Hospital, where the passenger, 29-year-old Kendall Heard, of Freeport, N.Y., was pronounced dead. Numa has been charged with manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and DWI, police said. 112TH PRECINCT Forest Hills and Rego Park Woman throws coffee, punch at F train rider A 53-year-old woman received quite a jolt on a Queens subway train last week when a fellow rider threw coffee in her face before punching her, according to police. The assault happened aboard an F train as it was traveling through the Rego Park/Forest Hills area on April 2, cops said. The victim received minor injuries as a result of the attack, officials said. Police have released a photo of the woman wanted in the assault and describe her as about 5 feet 1 inch tall. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477). 114TH PRECINCT Astoria, Long Island City, Woodside and Jackson Heights Police fatally shoot armed man in Astoria who allegedly shot, killed daughter Cops shot and killed an elderly man who they believe fatally shot his daughter inside an Astoria home, police said. Officers arrived at the 38th Street residence about 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, in response to a 9-1-1 call of a family dispute involving a gun, officials said. According to a police source, the caller said he had shot his daughter and a dog. Two cops were confronted by a man, identified by police as 86-year-old Jack Calvello, who was holding a shotgun. The officers told Calvello to drop his weapon, police said. He then allegedly turned in the direction of the cops, and one of the officers shot him once in the torso. Calvello was taken to Mt. Sinai Queens, where he was pronounced dead. His 65-year-old daughter, identified as Carolann Matyka, was found in the kitchen with a gunshot wound to the head and taken to Elmhurst Hospital Center, cops said. She was pronounced dead about 3:45 p.m. A dog was also found inside the home with a neck injury and it was removed by the ASPCA for treatment, police said, and a 12-gauge shotgun was recovered at the scene. $12K stolen from Astoria social club Two suspects swiped thousands in cash from an Astoria social club, cops said. The theft took place about 2 a.m. Monday, April 7, at the Unity Gallega of the United States club located on 31st Avenue near 37th Street, according to police. The pair stole a total of $12,000 before fleeing, officials said. Kennedy International Airport earlier this month got his panties in a bunch when he was caught with heroin in his underwear, according to U. S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials. The alleged smuggler, Bernard Charles, was caught after arriving at the airport on a flight from Trinidad on April 1, CBP said. During a baggage examination, he allegedly “exhibited numerous signs of nervousness.” He was then taken to private room where CBP officers conducted a physical search of Charles and found two clear packages in his groin area, officials said. The packages allegedly contained a brown paste-like substance that tested positive for heroin. In total, 1.79 pounds of the drug were seized, with an approximate street value of more than $70,000, according to CBP.
