Personal back g round : Before moving to New York, Warshaviak lived in Newark, New Jersey. After marriage, he moved to Forest Hills, and then Hillcrest, where he has been living for the past 40 years. The chairman also holds multiple degrees including a bachelor’s from City College, a master’s degree from Baruch College and a master’s degree from St. John’s University. Profesional back g round : Previously, he worked as controller for District Council 37 and has also been involved in the Queens Purim Parade, the D.A. Commission and MLK Commission. As far as his chairman position, Warshaviak has decided to retire, mainly to spend more time with his two grandchildren who live in Israel. The chairman understands the importance of family and because of this, he travels between New York and Israel on occasion in order to visit them. Motivation: What motivates Warshaviak is feeling that his purpose in life is to uplift those around him. He thanks God for having the opportunity to fulfill his duty of improving local communities and the lives of numerous individuals. Favorite memory: His favorite memory has been the entirety of his 25 years of service on the board. He gives much credit to the members of Community Board 8 for making his tenure on the board such an unforgettable experience. In a board meeting on March 9, including Queens Borough President Melinda Katz, Warshaviak was honored for his 25 years of service to the communities under Community Board 8, which pertains to Briarwood, Flushing South, Fresh Meadows, Holliswood, Hillcrest, Jamaica Estates, Jamaica Hills, Kew Gardens Hills and Utopia. Biggest challenge: As with any team, there is always a need to negotiate and put differences aside by the way of reaching a consensus. Warshaviak has very much enjoyed being part of this process within Community Board 8 in order to ensure that the board works to its fullest potential. Accomplishments: One of his biggest accomplishments from his career was working with the communities of Hillcrest, Kew Gardens Hills and Jamaica Estates in order to find jobs for local residents. With the collaboration of local synagogues, Warshaviak was able to help many people find employment. Aside from this, over the years he has enjoyed organizing entertainment and sports programs for both adults and children.
