Queens Council on the Arts’ 3rd space is proud to present “In between the lines,” an inaugural writing workshop hosted by Queens-based performance collective, The In Between People. Join the Queens Council for an evening in experimental performance and several writing exercises. The Queens Council on the Arts is located at 37-11 35th Avenue in Astoria. The event starts at 7 p.m., and admission costs $5. Come join the Rosedale Library for a movie matinee with the family and enjoy an afternoon of movies. Friday Folk Day never sounded as good as Brian Dunne charms with his repertoire of original folk rock song classics, and requests made by his stable of followers, a true treat for the eyes and ears. The event will take place at 9:30 p.m. at Payag Restaurant, located at 51-34 Roosevelt Avenue. SATURDAY, MARCH 22 Did you know that before machines were invented, cloth had to be woven by hand? Create weavings out of cloth and paper at King Manor. Families with children of all ages are welcome and admission is free! The event starts at noon. The museum is located at 150-3 Jamaica Avenue. Learn the basics of Tango dance with Yaisuri Salamanca and John Hernan, stars of “The Best TANGO.” Classes are $150 for 15 classes, $100 for 5 classes, and $25 per class. SUNDAY, MARCH 23 St. Mary’s Nativity Church is holding a St. Patricks Day jazz event with the Paul Joseph Quartet performing inspiring renditions of Irish favorites. The event starts at 1 p.m., and tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. St. Mary’s Nativity Church is located at 46-02 Parsons Boulevard. The Rego Park Jewish Center will be showing the fi lm, “The Debt,” starring Helen Mirren and Jessica Chatsain. This espionage thriller begins in 1997 with the story looking back to 1965 when a trio of Mossad secret agents tracked down a Nazi war criminal and accomplished their mission. The movie starts at 2 p.m. Admission is $5 per person which includes refreshments after the fi lm. The Rego Park Jewish Center is located at 97-30 Queens Boulevard, between 64th and 65th Roads. SATURDAY, MARCH 29 State Senator Joseph P Addabbo, Jr. and the Integrated Medical Foundation are hosting a free prostate cancer screening for men over 40 who have not previously been treated for the disease. The screening, which includes a PSA blood test, will be at Addabbo’s Howard Beach offi ce, 159-53 102nd Street, from noon to 2 p.m. Appointments are recommended, but walk-ins are welcome as well, regardless of insurance. Patients must bring a photo ID (e.g. driver’s license) and their physician’s name and address on a separate paper, and will be notifi ed of exam results by bringing a stamped, self-addressed envelope. The Gingerbread Players present “The Boyfriend.” This is a classic boymeets girl romantic romp, set on the freewheeling French Riviera during the jazz age, is an affectionate spoof of the madcap musicals of the 1920s. The story of Polly Browne, the poor little rich girl at an elegant school for young ladies, and her search for “that perfect thing called the boyfriend” will lift your spirits and set your toes a-tapping with such irresistible tunes. Performances start at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The company’s trademark gingerbread cookies and cake will be on sale during the intermission. There is a suggested $12 donation, with a discount rate of $10 for groups of six or more.
