Cultivate your green thumb at Queens Botanical Garden with resident
plant expert Fred Gerber in an introductory workshop on how to start
your summer vegetables indoors. Attendees will take home a starter
garden. The workshop is recommended for adults and children ages

11 Flushing Town Hall invites
you to draw a live nude
model with other artists on
Monday night. The workshop will
have models with a variety of quick
poses for artists to draw. The hosts
encourage attendees to bring their
sketch pad with your favorite drawing
medium. This workshop will give artists
real experience in a relaxing and
non-judgmental environment. The
event even has music and refreshments
for participants. You must be
at least 21 years old to participate.
Flushing Council on Culture and the
Arts and Flushing Town Hall is a notfor
profit organization which receives
major support from the National
Endowment for the Arts.

Center will have a handson
class for young children on
Tuesday. This event allows kids to
meet special animal guests during
each class they have. These classes
expose children to nature during
their playtime. Children and caregivers
will sing songs, move to music
and participate in activities that spark
curiosity and discovery. Those children
who enjoy hands-on activities
will thoroughly enjoy this Alley Pond
Environmental Center event.

Hall of Science to experience
the Flight of the Butterflies,
a 3-D movie that takes visitors
on a treacherous yet captivating
journey. In the 3-D theater, visitors
are a part of the monarch butterfly’s
journey. Visitors watch their migration
patterns closely, witnessing thousands
fly through the peaks of Mexico.
Experience what 40 years of research
looks like to find the monarch butterfly’s
secret hideaway. Washington Post
described the 3-D film as “engrossing.”
The exhibit will run until June
30, 2019.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 13
15 Flushing Town Hall will
give senior citizens a
space to tell stories through art
during a six-session workshop. On
Wednesday, this event encourages
those over the age of 60 to explore
the creative side of themselves. This
workshop series gives participants
the tools to make a pop-up book. The
pop-up book is created through inspiration
by their life events. The end
product serves as a tangible keepsake
and memory book for all who
participate. Each week, attendees will
learn new skills such as bookmaking,
puppetry manipulation and warmup
theater games. The program will
run from March 13 through the end
of April.

16 The Kupferberg Holocaust
Center will host a lecture
on Standing With Standing Rock:
Allyship and The Environment.
According to the center, the lecture
will cover “the ongoing resistance
movements lead by indigenous people
and allies of different cultures and
faiths not only at Standing Rock but
also around other sites of possible oil
pipelines and where resource extracting
threatens land, water, sacred sites
and lives.” Speakers will include Rabbi
Mordechai Liebling, director of the
Social Justice Organizing Program
at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical
College, and Rachel Waters, graduate
student at the New School’s Milano
School of International Affairs.

offers free weekly events
for senior citizens who want to
exercise and dance. Instructed by

Senior Center for one of their their
weekly events, Rhythm’s Gonna Get
You. The center offers a range of activities,
which include lunches, social
services, educational workshops,
exercise classes, discussion groups,
games, art classes, lectures, workshops,
health screenings, organized
outings, special events and parties.
