Fatal cuts for man at home
Police are investigating the death of a
man who was found with cuts on his face
and arms in the backyard of his Jamaica
home.
According to police, at 10:48 p.m. on
March 1, offi cers from the 103rd Precinct
responded to a 911 call regarding an
unconscious person in the rear of a home
on 170th Street.
Upon their arrival, cops found 49-yearold
Anthony Fields in the backyard of
the home, unconscious and unresponsive,
with lacerations to his face and arms.
EMS responded to the location and
pronounced Fields dead at the scene.
No arrests have been made at this time.
Th e investigation is ongoing.

station slashing
Cops are looking for a suspect who
punched and slashed a man in the stairwell
of a Flushing subway station.

According to authorities, at 4:45 p.m.
on March 4, an unknown man followed
a 34-year-old man down the stairwell to
the Flushing-Main Street 7 train subway
station.
Sources familiar with the investigation
said that the man and victim got into a
verbal dispute moments before the attack
occurred.
On the stairwell, law enforcement
sources said, the perpetrator punched
the victim in the torso from behind and
cut his left thigh with an unknown sharp
object. Th e slasher then fl ed the scene in
an unknown direction.
Offi cers from the 109th Precinct and
the NYPD Transit Bureau, along with
EMS units, responded to the incident.
Paramedics took the victim to a local hospital,
where he received several stitches.
On March 5, the NYPD released pictures
of the perpetrator, who’s described
as a black man with facial hair, standing
5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 190
pounds. He was last seen wearing a black
North Face jacket and multicolored headwear.

Rego Park
Boy charged for anti-
Semitic graffi ti
Detectives charged a 12-year-old boy
for scrawling hateful symbols and words
across a Rego Park schoolyard last week,
the NYPD announced last week.
Police did not release the identity of the
suspect due to his age. He faces a charge
of aggravated harassment. Aft er being
arraigned, he was released into his mother’s
custody, Chief of Detectives Dermot
Shea tweeted.
“No matter the face of hate, the NYPD,
partnered with the community, has ZERO
tolerance,” Shea added.
Law enforcement sources said the boy
wrote swastikas and anti-Semitic phrases
across the schoolyard of P.S. 139, located
at 93-06 63rd Dr., sometime on Feb.
22. School offi cials discovered the hateful
imagery, written in chalk, and had them
wiped out.
Th at same day, Councilwoman Karen
Koslowitz became aware of the incident
and shared pictures of the damage on
social media. Two days later, Governor
Andrew Cuomo ordered the New York
State Police to assist the NYPD in its hate
crimes investigation into the incident.
Sources familiar with the investigation
said only that “good police work” led
detectives to the suspected vandal on Feb.
27. A motive for the boy’s actions remains
unclear.
Koslowitz took to Facebook on Feb.
27 to praise the NYPD’s eff orts in cracking
the case.
“Th e person who drew swastikas and
anti-Semitic slurs in the P.S. 139 playground
has been caught,” she wrote. “I
am shocked that a 12-year-old committed
this crime. It’s completely unacceptable
and has no place in our society.
Th ank you to the 112th Precinct and the
NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force for their
swift action.”

Springfi eld Gardens
Child killed in home inferno
Tragedy struck a Springfi eld Gardens
family on the morning of Sunday, March
3, aft er a fi re broke out in their home
and claimed an 8-year-old boy’s life and
injured six others.
Th e Fire Department reported that a
burning candle caused the one-alarm
fi re that ignited just before 2:30 a.m. on
March 3 at a home on 160th Street near
140th Avenue.
Firefi ghters and members of the 113th
Precinct responded to a 911 call about the
blaze. Upon arriving at the home, police
located 8-year-old Tighani Jones inside
the home, unconscious and unresponsive.
Paramedics arrived on the scene and
pronounced him dead.
According to the New York Daily
News, two of Jones’ brothers were forced
to jump out of a second-fl oor window to
safety.
Th e Fire Department reported that the
blaze was brought under control at about
3:30 a.m. Later that day, they tweeted that
the cause appeared to be a burning candle.
Additionally, the home had a smoke
detector, but it wasn’t operational.
No criminality is suspected, police said,
but the investigation is ongoing.
Th e FDNY urges everyone to have
working smoke detectors near every bedroom
of their home, and to make sure
that they are in working order.
110th Precinct
Elmhurst/Woodside
Muggers steal man’s
cash and clothes
Cops are looking for suspects who violently
attacked and robbed a man at the
Elmhurst/Woodside border last month.
According to police, at around 11:45
p.m. on Feb. 13, a 22-year-old man
was walking on 72nd Street toward
Roosevelt Avenue when three men
pulled up beside him in a white Jeep.
Th e crooks chased the victim into a
nearby parking lot, hit him with a blunt
object and demanded his property.
Th e suspects took the victim’s wallet,
cellphone, keys, money and jacket
before fl eeing the scene. Police say that
the victim was also stripped of his clothing,
however it is unclear how much of
the victim’s clothing was taken.
Offi cers from the 110th Precinct
responded to the incident. Th e victim was
taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Th e 110th Precinct tweeted out photos
of two of the suspects wanted for
this incident.
