Flames damaged several fl oors of
a Woodhaven building during a
two-alarm fi re that broke out on
Christmas Eve.
The two-alarm blaze broke out just
before midnight on Dec. 24 and moved
through the three story mixed-use
building at the corner of Jamaica Avenue
and Woodhaven Boulevard.
According to information provided
by the City Council Speaker’s offi ce,
the fl ames spread through the building’s
duct system and the roof; photos
of the damage appeared on the Project
Woodhaven Facebook page.
Photos depict broken windows
on the side of the building facing
Woodhaven Boulevard from the second
fl oor up, and a charred interior
in the space occupied by an orthodontist’s
offi ce called Woodhaven Braces.
A Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen with
the address 92-20 Jamaica Ave., as well
as a bodega are located on the ground
fl oor of the structure.
There are no reports of any injuries
or deaths, according to an
email alert from the City Council
Speaker’s office to City Councilman
Eric Ulrich. The FDNY had
reported the fire as under control
by about 1:49 a.m. on Dec. 25, the
alert noted.
FDNY did not respond to a Ridgewood
Times request for further information;
the cause of the fi re is not
yet known.
