LeBron James stuns Christ the King basketball players with visit

In early September, King James came to Queens to visit basketball players at Middle Village’s Christ the King
High School. The NBA star surprised students with new equipment while on tour of the new locker room he
had funded. Needless to say, students were shocked to see the Lakers player in their gym and were quick to
blast social media with video of the visit.

Anger arises over proposed
homeless shelter in Maspeth
Councilman Robert Holden wanted to clarify rumos that P.S. 9 in Maspeth
was going to be converted into a homeless shelter. The councilman
called the rumors “very premature.” The available space at 78-16
Cooper Ave. in Glendale has piqued the interest of the School Construction
Authority (SCA). The city’s Department of Homeless Services (DHS) has
revived unpopular plans to build a homeless shelter at the Glendale site,
but Holden said he off ered help fi nding an alternative location.

levels of lead
in tap water
Ridgewood, Maspeth and
Glendale are the Queens
neighborhoods with the
highest amount of lead in their
drinking water. This is according
to a study from The New York City
Independent Budget Offi ce which
released in September. The results
of the study came from water testing
data taken from 2006 to 2016.

Fly infestation at former Glendale
restaurant grosses out residents
Glendale residents were concerned by the number of horsefl ies inside
of a former Belmont Steaks bar and restaurant. The restaurant had
been abandoned for years and some residents speculated that the
shuttered eatery was infested with either vermin or other wildlife.Dozens
of the insects could be seen stuck between the glass and plywood covering
the windows; one fl y was spotted crawling across the paper sign when the
Ridgewood Times stood outside the dilapidated eatery.
