Dilapidated former Glendale eatery to be developed

Permits fi led with the city Department
of Buildings show that developers
are looking build apartments
and commercial space at a dilapidated
former restaurant site in Glendale.
The site is the former Belmont
Steaks restaurant at 79-11 Myrtle Ave.
which closed down several years ago.
The plans call for three stories, with
eight housing units and commercial
space on the ground level that could
be occupied by a health clinic, and an
underground garage could accommodate
several cars.
Despite being dormant for many
years, it made headlines recently
aft er a fl y infestation that grossed out
numerous neighborhood residents.
According to the city Department
of Finance, A. Trinchese Myrtle LLC
bought the derelict property in April
2016 for the sum of $885,000.
Community Board 5 District
Manager Gary Giordano said the
advisory board had filed a formal
complaint with the DOH over the
fly infestation.
The building has been neglected for
years with a torn awning and one of
the spires stands at a crooked angle.
The horse racing theme of the
restaurant was meant to evoke the
image of Churchill Downs in Louisville,
Ky.

Civic Association’s page depicted fl ies
wedged between the plywood panels
covering the windows and the glass.
While the permits have yet to be
approved by the DOB, a demolition for
current building has not been fi led as
of yet either.
