CB 5 meet
Community Board 5 will
hold a public hearing on a
supportive and aff ordable
housing development in Glendale
during its next meeting on
Wednesday night, Nov. 14, in
Middle Village.
As announced by Board 5 District
Manager Gary Giordano, the session
begins at 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria
of Christ the King High School,
located at 68-02 Metropolitan Ave.
The public hearing focuses on
a zoning variance application
submitted by PSCH Cypress Ave.
Housing Development Fund
Corp., d.b.a. WellLife Network,
to the Board of Standards and Appeals
(BSA). The variance would
allow the applicant to construct
a 66-unit, 6-story residential
structure at 80-97 Cypress Ave.
(Block 3731/3732, Lot 65 and parts
of Lots 54 and 412); an abandoned,
three-story brick building currently
occupies the location.
Of the 66 units, WellLife proposes
20 apartments as supportive
housing units for homeless or
at-risk individuals, young adults
or families with children, where
one adult household member has
serious mental health illness or
another disabling condition.
Another 20 apartments would
be reserved for senior citizens who
are homeless or at risk of homelessness,
and also have a disabling
condition. The remaining units
would be designated as aff ordable
apartments for individuals from
the community who meet low-income
eligibility criteria.
Additionally, the board will hold
a public hearing on another BSA
application, this one submitted by
Manny Kumar, owner of the gas
station located at 73-13 Cooper Ave.
in Glendale (Block 3691, Lot 19). Kumar
is seeking a variance to allow
the alteration of the existing gas
station for the installation of a new
canopy. The variance would also
legalize a convenience store and a
dispenser arrangement on the site.
Following the hearings, the
board will commence with its normal
agenda, which includes the public
forum; a review of demolition
notices and liquor license applications;
reports by Chairperson Vincent
Arcuri and District Manager
Giordano; and committee reports.

Two suspects sought
for robbing cabbie

Detectives are looking for the
suspects who recently robbed a
taxi driver at gunpoint in front
of the Grand Motor Inn in Maspeth.
According the NYPD press offi ce, a
total of three women entered the cab as
he was sitting in front of 72-51 Grand Ave.
at about 3 p.m. on Oct. 9 before displaying
the fi rearm and forced the driver to
take them to the intersection of Whitney
Avenue and Denman Street in Elmhurst.
Two of the women sat in the back,
with one of them wielding the gun,
while one sat in the front, law enforcement
sources said.
At some point, police reported, the
suspects forced the driver to put on
a condom and they fi lmed him as he
complied with their demand.
The suspects allegedly took $49
in cash upon being dropped off
at the location and fl eeing on foot,
police reported. The incident was
later reported to the 110th and 104th
precincts.
NYPD did not have a description for
the women other than the fact they are
three females in their 20s.
The 104th Precinct posted photos
of two of the suspects on their
Twitter page asking for the public to
report any information leading to the
suspects.

Ridgewood pols celebrate
civic group’s anniversary
During the Ridgewood
Property Owners and Civic
Association meeting on Nov.
1, Assemblyman Mike Miller participated
in the celebration of the
group’s 87th anniversary. “I would
like to thank Paul Kerzner and the
Ridgewood Property Owners and
Civic Association Board as well as
past Presidents and Board Members
for all the work they did and continue
to do for the Ridgewood community,“
said Miller. Joining him at
the ceremony were state Senator
Joe Addabbo and City Councilman
Robert Holden.
