Blotter -SEE 104 BLOTTER ON PG. 28- by Robert Pozarycki Luck ran out for a reputed mobster that federal agents picked up in Las Vegas last Tuesday, Oct. 28, for allegedly whacking an associate in Howard Beach more than 12 years ago, it was announced. One Injured In R’wood Crash Gennaro (a.k.a. Jerry) Bruno, 41, of Las Vegas was collared by the FBI and brought back to New York after being indicted on racketeering and related racketeering conspiracy charges, which included the January 2002 murder of Martin Bosshart. Federal law enforcement sources said Bruno and another associate—Todd LaBarca— conspired to kill Bosshart, who allegedly crossed them by trying to block a fellow wiseguy out of a marijuana importing operation. LaBarca, who was picked up by federal agents in a January 2011 mafia sweep, was convicted in April 2012 for his role in the crime and other charges. “As alleged, Gennaro Bruno started his criminal career at a young age as a member of a street gang where he earned his criminal credentials,” U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Loretta E. Lynch stated. “He then graduated to become an associate in the Gambino crime family, where he proved himself to be both an earner for the family and capable of murder. The arrests and charges announced today are a testament to the tireless pursuit of justice by law enforcement.” “Bruno was as ruthless as he was calculating, and after a long run of evading justice, Bruno’s gig is up,” added FBI Assistant Director-in-Charge George Venizelos. “I was at the crime scene that night and saw firsthand that this was a deliberate and calculated execution of the deceased individual,” added Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, who praised federal agents and prosecutors for their efforts. “While it has taken more than a dozen years to bring the alleged triggerman to justice, I congratulate our federal law enforcement colleagues for their perseverance, commitment and hard work in ensuring that justice -SEE MOB ON PG. 28- FOCA Contributes To Coalition Ridgewood Civic Group Supports Shelter Lawsuit by Noah Zuss Sanitation Department tickets given to residents for minimal garbage on sidewalks and a donation to the Glendale Middle Village Coalition were the hot topics during the Farmers Oval Civic Association (FOCA) meeting held last Thursday, Oct. 30, at Ridgewood Baptist Church. FOCA Secretary Alice Kokasch began the meeting by asking members if they would be willing make a donation to the coalition of residents working to block the proposed Glendale homeless shelter at 78-16 Cooper Ave. Kokasch also discussed a $100 Sanitation Department ticket she received for a few candy wrappers left on her sidewalk by some litterers. “We are a small group and we don’t have a lot of money,” Kokasch said. “But they are looking to get lawyers that are going to be able to fight this.” After some debate, rhe group decided to donate $50 to the antishelter coalition. “I really think that shelter, those Samaritan Village people, I don’t think they are a nice group of people,” she said. “Like all the politicians say, and I agree and I’m sure that everybody in this room says, ‘Thanks be to God it’s not me.’” “It could be any one of us that’s suddenly without a home. Those people didn’t all start poor. The city should help them, but not in a situation that’s contaminated ground and not if it’s going to overcrowd our schools and really hurt people in that area,” she added. When the subject turned to garbage collection and ticketing, Kokasch echoed the feelings of another civic association that has been fighting what they feel are unfair Sanitation Department tickets. She told the group she will go to court to fight the ticket, and that she believes its unfair to ticket people very early in the morning. The next Farmers Oval Civic Association meeting will be held at the Ridgewood Baptist Church, 64-13 Catalpa Ave. in Ridgewood on Thursday, Nov. 20. at 7 p.m. Call Now & End Your Tax Nightmare! ©Times Newsweekly - 2014 - THETAXAD • Owe the IRS more than $10,000? • Being Audited? • Unfiled Tax Returns? • Wage & Bank Levies?
