From first-timers to professionals, thousands of runners passed through Long Island City on Sunday along their 26.2 mile journey during the TCS New York City Marathon. The Queens section of the race-- which passes through all five boroughs began at the Pulaski Bridge, the midway point of the race. In all, more than 50,000 runners wound their way along Vernon Boulevard, Jackson Avenue, Crescent Street and connecting roadways before crossing over the Ed Koch-Queensboro Bridge en route to Manhattan. With this year’s race falling on Halloween weekend, some of the participants opted to compete in costume. Kenyans swept both the professional men’s (Stanley Biwott) and women’s (Mary Keitany) races. Locally, Michael Ammirabile of Queens finished second in the Foot Locker Five Borough Challenge with a time of 4 hours, 1 minute, 34 seconds. RIDGEWOOD TIMES/Photo by Marcin Zurawicz
