It's Howard Beach attorney Scott Baron’s unique son who will qualify as the youngest producer of a Broadway, off-Broadway or off-off- Broadway show. Alex Baron, a freshman in college, just 18 years old, is about to be listed as a co-producer of a new show coming to Broadway in 2016, “Gotta Dance.” And no younger person has ever held that spot. And it's his talent that earned him such a prestigious slot. When I spoke to Dori Berinstein one of the producers, she spoke with awe about Alex. "When I saw one of Alex's productions, I was so impressed with how he put the show together I knew immediately he had talent,” she said. “Then when I met him, I realized how he can help our team bring in the millennials to our show.” I asked Alex when he developed his passion and he said it happened when he was 12. “I was acting in a school play and I realized what I loved most was to put the production together rather than be in it,” he explained. With the encouragement of his family, Alex has produced two off-off- Broadway shows. I saw one, “Vote for Me,” and I was impressed with the production! The actors, directing, sets and story development was all Alex. It was hard to believe that at 17 and in high school, he was responsible for all that -- and it was a sold-out production. In September, he left home for Penn State University where his theatre study program gives him some fl exibility. He has been able to go back to Manhattan for meetings on the production of “Gotta Dance.” "This will be a way to catapult Alex into the industry and to learn the inner workings of a Broadway show. He will be a producer in the trenches," Ms. Berinstein added with a feeling of pride in her voice. "He is," she added, "overseeing our marketing and social media efforts particularly to reach his generation. We are eager to hear his advice about how we can attract a younger generation to the theatre. He asks very smart questions and I know he's destined to greatness. If he wasn’t in college, we would involve him even more!" she said frankly. A star has been offi cially launched.
