THE VANDER END-ONDERDONK HOUSE
GREATER RIDGEWOOD HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Our Beginning
Built in 1709 by the Vander Ende's the
Vander Ende-Onderdonk house is the
oldest Dutch colonial stone house in New
York City. After a serious fire in 1975, local
residents rallied to save the structure from
demolition, forming the Greater Ridgewood
Historical Society. It was placed on
the National Register of Historic Places in
1978 and still maintained by the GRHS.
Our Mission
The mission of the Greater Ridgewood
Historical Society is to preserve the past
and enrich our future through events and
programming that engages our community
through history.
Get Involved
We accept volunteers regardless of skill level we’ll
teach you all the skills you need to know. Teenagers
14 years and older can earn community service
credits for school. Donations are also vital to our
growth, as we use them for upkeep of the house,
programs and outreach.
