The eighth annual Bushwick Film Festival (BFF) kicked off on Thursday night at LightSpace Studios with a red carpet reception and the screening of opening night film, “Wallabout.” Fellow filmmakers, actors and actress joined the cast and crew of “Wallabout” to fill LightSpace Studios and pose for photos and Actresses Jessica Kahler (left) and Jo-Anne interviews on the red carpet prior to the screening. Attendees were also treated to a special live performance by Traces from NBC’s hit show, “The Sing Off.” “Wallabout” is about a single woman who struggles to rebuild her life in Brooklyn after spending a decade in France as the unrecognized muse to a famous filmmaker. It is an intimate first-person account of an overeducated and underemployed woman who navigates an often hypocritical and corrupt society. BFF founder Kweighbaye Kotee said that she and her staff fell in love with “Wallabout.” “Everything was just perfect about it,” Kotee said. “It is a New York City film and some of it was shot in Bushwick.” After the screening, BFF held a special Q&A with lead actress Ivy Elrod and director Eric McGinty. The four-day film festival continues throughout the weekend with film screenings, workshops and panels.
