Brooklyn residents Duanzhao Zhang, 38, Tong Shun Zhang, 29, and Tong Zhew Zhang, 24; Weiyang Yao, 47, and Yuejiang Zeng, 53, of California; and Shan Wu Zhang, 30, of Canada were arrested on Oct. 5 and as of press time were awaiting arraignment in Queens Criminal Court on charges of criminal possession of marijuana. According to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, members of the DEA’s New York Drug Enforcement Task Force were in the vicinity of 50-22 Ireland St. in Elmhurst at about 1:25 a.m. on Monday when they saw the six men unloading cardboard boxes from a 18-wheel semi-tractor trailer into a small U-Haul truck and another smaller cargo van. When the officers approached the vehicles, they were allegedly “overwhelmed by a strong odor of marijuana” which was coming from the tractor trailer and the boxes being transferred to the smaller cars. The agents then allegedly saw seven large pallets holding cardboard boxes stacked at least 6 feet high in the tractor trailer, according to Brown. It is estimate that the boxes held more than 3,000 pounds of marijuana packaged in vacuum-sealed plastic bags. Along with the marijuana, the men were also found with between $200,000 and $300,000 stacked and bundled inside the three vehicles. Man found fatally shot inside car in S. Ozone Park A 27-year-old man was found dead inside his car on Oct. 4 in South Ozone Park after being shot twice, according to police. At about 8:28 p.m. cops responded to an assault in front of 111-21 120th St. and upon arriving at the scene they found Vickiram Ramlogan – who lives on the block – shot in the head and neck while inside a 2005 Toyota, authorities said. Emergency personnel responded and pronounced Ramlogan dead on arrival at the scene. No arrests have been made and the investigation is currently ongoing. Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. Corona man robs two victims within 15 minutes A Corona man tried his luck at robbing two individuals on Sept. 30, but it ran out when the victims chased him down and recovered their property, according to authorities. The 110th Precinct first got a call at 3:20 p.m. after Joseph Valdez, 21, of Corona allegedly snatched a phone from a girl who was walking with a friend on Christie Avenue near 99th Street, police said. The victim and her friend then decided to run after Valdez to retrieve the phone, authorities noted. The perpetrator dropped the phone onto the ground, damaging it, and ran away. Several minutes later, Valdez allegedly grabbed a phone from a second victim’s hand — this time a young man — when he was chased again by his victim. A struggle ensued when Valdez also tried to steal the victim’s backpack as he was being chased, but he was unsuccessful a second time and dropped the backpack on the ground. Police Officer Christopher Musa, in responding to the incidents, spotted Valdez during the second robbery and was able to apprehend him. Valdez was charged with third degree robbery, third degree criminal mischief, acting in manner injurious to a child, criminal possession of stolen property and unlawful possession of marijuana.
