Now how about one that combines music and fi tness? Certified POUND instructor Anastasia Traitses is holding classes at The Footlight every Wednesday and Saturday at 12:30 p.m. for $10 per class and would like Ridgewood to give it a whirl. “POUND makes working out fun and can encourage you to make fi tness a consistent thing in your life,” Traitses said. Using lightly weighted exercise drumsticks (Riptix), POUND is a mashup of cardio, strength training and conditioning with yoga and Pilates-inspired movements. Traitses was fi rst introduced to the unique workout when she saw a class listed at the gym she belongs to, revealing that her curiosity drove her to drop by that fi rst class. “To be honest, I was skeptical,” she admits. Traitses became a certified POUND instructor in October 2015 and her class at The Footlight is her fi rst stab at teaching the workout routine and initial plunge into the fi tness industry. She said that since beginning teaching classes last month, the response from the community has been positive. “It’s still early, but everyone who attended so far has come fairly regularly or plans to return,” she said. Relieved to have found something that has really stuck with her, Traitses said that “to fi nd a workout that is this fun and effective is what I call fi tness nirvana.” Exercise has been an integral part of Traitses’ life since she was young but before being swept away with POUND, Traitses was a sound engineer and stagehand working late hours and “surrounded by things that are considered unhealthy,” she says. On making the switch from the theater world to the fi tness i ndustry, Traitses seems to have found her niche: “POUND brings the two biggest things in my life together: music and fi tness. I was so happy for the discovery,” Traitses said. Traitses and The Footlight owner Laura Regan have been friends for years, making the decision to hold class at the community’s new rocking multipurpose venue a no-brainer: “I love that Regan is creating a multi-functional space where people can be creative and share their own passions with others.” If you’re in a workout routine slump or want to shake things up a bit, drop in for one of Traitses’ classes every Wednesday and Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at The Footlight and stick around for a post-workout beer! Don’t forget to bring your own mat and towel, Ridgewood! ATTENTION SCHOOLS: Send us your sports news! rpozarycki@ ridgewoodtimes.com
