A new era will begin at Christ the
King High School in Middle
Village this September as
the Catholic institution will have
a brand-new principal.
The Christ the King High School
board of trustees announced their
appointment of Geri Martinez as
the new principal on Friday, Aug. 18.
“After a thorough review of
highly qualified candidates, we
at Christ the King are pleased to
announce the appointment of Ms.
Geri Martinez as principal,” said
Serphin R. Maltese, chairman
of the Christ the King board of
trustees, in a statement. “Her
experience and enthusiasm as an
educator for over 30 years will
be a wonderful fit with the hard
work and efforts put in by the faculty
and administration to make
Christ the King a pillar of academic
excellence.”
Martinez has a wealth of experience
in Catholic education,
beginning her career at Stella
Maris High School in Rockaway
Park. She started as the school’s
guidance counselor, then the assistant
principal. Martinez was
then the principal at Stella Maris
for 14 years.
When Stella Maris closed in
2010, Martinez served as assistant
principal of Bishop Kearney High
School in Brooklyn, where she
most recently served as its interim
principal.
“I have been blessed in my life
to always be able to do what I love
to do, working with faculty and
students, meeting the challenges
of each day and searching for the
next step in the continuum of professional
and personal growth for
all,” Martinez said. “I now look forward
to my new role as principal of
Christ the King High School.”
Martinez holds a degree in
school counseling and New York
State certification in administration
and supervision. She has
also been teaching at St. Joseph’s
College for more than 16 years and
currently serves on a variety of
educational and Catholic-affiliated
organizations.
