A waterless Sunday
on Ridgewood block
The Department of Design and Construction
(DDC) is warning residents on a Ridgewood
block that the water will be shut off this coming
Sunday.
According to an advisory released by the DDC,
a water main project on Onderdonk Avenue will
cause the water to be shut off for approximately
eight hours on Aug. 19 beginning at 8 a.m. The
affected areas will include Seneca Avenue
between Stanhope Street and DeKalb Avenue
as well as Stockholm Street between Seneca
Avenue and Cypress Avenue.
A source from Community Board 5 who is
familiar with the project explained that the
contractor for the project has to do the work on
Sunday because it is the only day of the week
that Atlantic Dialysis Management on the corner
of Seneca Avenue and Stanhope Street is
closed. The contractor is not permitted to shut
the water main while the dialysis treatment
center is open.
The DDC recommends that residents in the
aff ected area shut off the water main valves in
their homes in order to avoid problems that may
occur when sediment enters or is released from
the plumbing. It is also recommended that all
water-cooled appliances be turned off , which
may include air conditioners.
Once the water service is returned, the DDC
recommends turning the main valve back on
and fl ushing the system by running faucets to
sinks and tubs for 15 to 30 minutes.

New website to log
your cable problems
If you’re a cable customer living in Queens
and having problems with your service, you
now have another outlet to vent your frustration
and demand improvements.
Councilman Rafael Espinal has officially
launched fixmycablenow.com. The website,
which was paid for and run through his campaign
organization, Espinal for NYC, is devoted
to receiving feedback from cable customers in
the city, particularly those who receive service
from Spectrum.
“Aft er reviewing the fi ndings of state regulators,
and especially aft er the Public Service
Commission’s (PSC) extraordinary move to kick
Spectrum out of New York entirely, it is critical
that we make an eff ort to understand how
New York City customers are being negatively
impacted by this greedy and irresponsible corporation,”
said the Brooklyn-based Espinal, who
also serves as the Chairman of the Committee
on Consumer Aff airs and Business.
The launch of the website comes in the wake
of the PSC’s move to expel Spectrum from New
York state for failing to fulfi ll its responsibilities
to customers in New York. Prior to this decision,
the PSC had hit Spectrum with $2 million in
fi nes.
If you wish to leave feedback about Spectrum
or any other Internet or cable provider in the
city, visit fi xmycablenow.com.
