According to Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown, the victim was severely beaten by stepmother Sheetal Ranot, 31, and biological father Rajesh Ranot, 46, with baseball bats, rolling pins, broom handles and other objects. Beatings allegedly occurred on several occasions from December 2012 to July of this year, recently became the first recipient of the Alexander T. Wells Community Service Award in Long Island City. The award was given to the Van Bramer on behalf of the Long Island City/Astoria Lions Club at their annual meeting. The honor is bestowed upon outstanding individuals who have made a difference in the community and throughout New York City. The Lions Club is the first Lions Club chartered in New York State.
