Felix Perez, 37, was scheduled to be arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on Wednesday after the Ridgewood Times went to press. According to police, officers from the 104th Precinct responded to a 911 call of a burglary-in-progress in the first floor apartment at 55-38 66th St. at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 1 when the resident of the apartment noticed the burglar in her home on a nanny cam. The female caller met uniformed officers outside of the apartment and let them in, police said. Inside the apartment, cops found Perez — who has an extensive history of burglaries — hiding out in a back room. A struggle then ensued and an officer discharged one round from his service weapon, striking Perez in the groin, police reported. Perez then fled the building on foot before being tracked down about a block away and apprehended by cops. Perez was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian/Queens Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition with single gunshot to the groin area. Perez has been charged with burglary, criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest. Initial reports on Monday afternoon indicated that a woman was shot in the head at the scene. However, police would later announced that a 36-year-old woman discovered approximately three-quarters of a block away from the incident, lying in a private driveway near her residence suffered a different kind of head injury. She was transported to Elmhurst Hospital with a laceration to her head and is listed in stable condition. According to the police, after a brief surgical procedure, doctors removed an object from under her scalp, which preliminary inspection indicates that it appears to be short piece of wire cable. The female victim was interviewed by detectives in an effort to determine how she sustained her injury.
