It Cops Get Three For Firing Gun In B’wick by Noah Zuss Police arrested three young men as they ran from the scene of shots fired on the Bed-Stuy/Bushwick border, one of whom threw a loaded 9mm handgun to the ground as he fled, law enforcement sources stated, Wednesday, July 9. At 12:48 a.m., officers from the 77th Precinct reportedly heard shots fired in the vicinity of Broadway near the Sumner Houses. After calling the incident in over the radio, they observed three males running from the scene and chased after them, police stated. While traveling southbound on Marcus Garvey Boulevard in a marked vehicle, a lieutenant heard the incident reported. He and two police officers in the vehicle then saw the men fleeing northbound near Ellery Street, law enforcement sources stated. They exited the vehicle and began to chase on foot when the suspects tuned onto Ellery Street and one reportedly threw a gun he was holding to the ground, police said. The suspects are Bernard Bellony, 19, Ruben Pabon, 23 and Sylvester Roberts, 25, police stated. Each is described as a black male, according to law enforcement officials. Bellony was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and resisting arrest; Pabon was chared with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct; and Roberts was charged with resisting arrest, acting in a manner injurious to a child and assault, law enforcement sources said. Two of the three suspects were reportedly collared at Fayette Street and Broadway. The third was arrested by responding units after he pushed a 13-year-old woman to the ground as he fled, law enforcement stated. Officers from the 102nd Precinct found Islam later that morning after receiving a 911 call regarding an unconscious male at the location. EMS units arrived at the scene and pronounced the victim dead. According to police, 102nd Precinct officers stopped Genno and Rodriguez at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday morning after observing them jaywalking through the intersection of 90th Avenue and 130th Street in Richmond Hill, causing a vehicle to swerve out of their way. Upon stopping and questioning the duo, law enforcement sources said, the suspects allegedly admitted to possessing molly (also known as ecstacy). Quantities of the illegal drug were found in their possession during a subsequent search. Carlos Genno, 22, of Liberty Avenue and Nestor (a.k.a. Bryant) Rodriguez, 20, of 90th Street were ordered held without bail on seconddegree murder and first-degree robbery charges for the July 9 attack that claimed the life of Nazmul Islam, 55, of 85th Road in Ozone Park. Detectives additionally linked Genno to a bloody assault last month of a teenager in Ozone Park and a sexual relationship with an underage girl. According to information provided by the Queens District Attorney’s office, Genno and Rodriguez allegedly attacked Islam at the corner of 76th Street and Atlantic Avenue at about 4:34 a.m. last Wednesday morning.
