APARTMENT ATTRACTION Punched Him After Refusing To Pay Plans For 50 Units At Ridgewood Theater theater’s former front lobby. The Ridgewood Theater featured its last picture show in 2008 after nearly a century of business, and its fate had been in doubt in the years that followed. Bushburg Properties purchased the former moviehouse last year for $6.95 million, and soon after declared its intention to build new apartments in much of the theater’s space, which abuts Cypress by Robert Pozarycki Someday soon, anyone will be able to live at the Ridgewood Theater. The Department of Buildings (DOB) approved lastMonday, July 7, plans submitted by the theater’s owner, Bushburg Properties, to develop 50 apartments within the shell of the former moviehouse. According to the plans—available online at the DOB’s online database, www.nyc.gov/buildings—the ground floor will contain over 13,000 sq. ft. of available commercial space. The theater’s Myrtle Avenue façade— declared a landmark by the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission—is to be untouched, along with ornamental features in the -SEE THEATER ON PG. 26- Maspeth Man Slugs Bus Driver Over Fare by Noah Zuss A Maspeth man was arrested for allegedly assaulting a bus operator last Friday, July 11, after refusing to pay the fare, law enforcement sources stated. Mihai Iancu, 31, of 69th Street reportedly entered the bus on Metropolitan Avenue near Rentar Plaza in Middle Village around 6:45 p.m. through the rear door while carrying a dog. Iancu then refused to pay the required fare, and would not exit the bus when the driver instructed him to, according to information from the Queens District Attorney’s office. When the male operator tried to call the dispatcher for police assistance, law enforcement sources said, Iancu allegedly assaulted him, repeatedly punching the driver about the face. During the assault, he reportedly pulled at the bus phone, causing the cord to rip. The operator suffered a fractured nose and substantial pain related to his injuries, according to police. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries, police stated Iancu was arrested just after 7 p.m. by P.O. Thomas Weil of the 104th Precinct. Atlas Park provided models to pose with the classic cars, while store owner Joe Fuoco was jamming out classics.
