Second ‘Run for Karina’ at
Molloy HS helps young scholars
Archbishop Molloy High School
in Briarwood held its second
“Walk/Run for Karina” on June
23 and raised more than $38,000 to
help young women entering Molloy.
The event is named in honor of Karina
Vetrano, a graduate of Molloy who
was brutally murdered in Howard
Beach back in 2016. Her parents, Phil
and Cathy Vetrano, were in attendance
at the June 23 event to help Molloy
President Richard Karsten present the
fi rst Karina Vetrano Memorial Scholarship
award to Jenna Schonmann,
who’s entering Molloy this September.
As he did last year, Phil Vetrano
also ran the Walk/Run’s opening
lap, carrying his daughter’s running
shoes with him. He was followed onto
the track by scores of Molloy students,
teachers and alums who participated
in the event.
