The Meadows Music and Arts Festival will take place at Citi Field on Oct. 1 and 2 with headliners such as Kanye West, The Weeknd and Chance the Rapper. More than 42 artists will perform across four stages set up in the complex and parking lot. Organizers canceled the last day of Governor’s Ball on June 4 due to weather and said they wanted to host this show to give Kanye West a chance to perform. Other artists include Grimes, The 1975, Chromeo, Empire of the Sun, Mac Miller, Cage the Elephant and more. The festival will also “embrace the amazing culinary diversity of Queens” and will serve a selection of craft cocktails that celebrate the city’s bar scene, according to a press release. “As a native New Yorker I grew up in awe of the innovative spirit surrounding Flushing Meadows Corona Park,” said Tom Russell, partner at Founders Entertainment, the production company behind Governor’s Ball. “With this event we can shine a spotlight once again on this iconic neighborhood and bring with it the economic benefi ts, strong community partnerships and local hiring for which Founders Entertainment is known.” Maker Faire, a hybrid science and county fair, is held on the same days as The Meadows Festival in nearby New York Hall of Science. The parking lot near Citi Field is used for overfl ow parking. The Meadows Festival organizers said that to be good neighbors, they will not offer parking for festivalgoers and will encourage them to take public transportation so that the lots can be used for other events. Parks Department offi cials said a permit has been issued for the Maker Faire, which will take place at the Hall of Science property and that for the past few years, the fair has also expanded to a 1.8-acre of parkland adjacent to the museum. The owners of Ridgewood’s outdoor bar space, Nowadays, are giving their customers the chance to do just that this summer, as they have announced the full list of movies they will be screening during their free Monday night fi lm series. The series will be put on in conjunction with Maysles Cinema, the Harlem-based fi lm house started by the late Albert Maysles in 2008. Maysles Cinema has fi nalized the list of fi lms to be screened at Nowadays, which includes fi lms by fi lmmaking legends such as Les Blank, Julie Taymor, Eddie Aikau, Werner Herzog, Bobbito Garcia, Joshua Oppenheimer and Christopher Guest. Nowadays will be hosting 10 weekly fi lms starting next Monday, June 20, and the series will run through Aug. 29. “Monday’s fi lm, just like all the others we’ll screen this summer, will be absolutely free, and it will start just after sundown,” Justin Carter of Nowadays said in a statement. “We really hope you’ll join us. It’s going to be so nice to sit under the stars and watch a movie together.” The fi rst fi lm set to be screened is Albert and David Maysles’ “Muhammad and Larry.” The Maysles brother captured the lead up to and action of the 1980 fi ght between Muhammad Ali and his former sparring partner and friend, Larry Holmes, but the footage remained unused until 2009. Nowadays confi rmed that the fi lm’s producer, Laura Coxson, will be on hand to introduce the fi lm, and possibly take questions after it screens. Pennebaker himself; • July 25, “Herzog Eats His Shoes and Burden of Dreams” directed by Les Blank; • Aug. 1, “Rubble Kings” directed by Shan Nicholson, post-screening Q&A with director Shan Nicholson; • Aug. 8, “Midsummer’s Night’s Dream” directed by Julie Taymor; • Aug. 15, “The Look of Silence” directed by Joshua Oppenheimer; • Aug. 22, “Symbiopsychotaxiplasm” directed by William Greaves; and • Aug. 29, “This is Spinal Tap” directed by Rob Reiner.
