THURSDAY, JUNE 23 Music: Local Roots @ Onderdonk & Sons (FREE) Onderdonk & Sons continues its Thursday evening Local Roots Music Sessions with special guest J. Walter Hawkes, four-time Emmy Award-winning composer/trombonist/ukulele player. Stop by to Local Roots CSA to pick up produce and small-batch provisions between 6 and 8 p.m. Music at 8:30 p.m. and beer specials from Ridgewood’s own Finback Brewery will last all night long. The event is free and Onderdonk & Sons is located 566 Onderdonk Ave. FRIDAY, JUNE 24 Music: Karaoke @ Gottscheer Hall (FREE) It’s Friday and that means karaoke at neighborhood haunt Gottscheer Hall. If singing isn’t your thing, you can still have fun watching your (new) friends belt out the classics while enjoying a German draft and a giant pretzel served with the best mustard in town! Admission is free and it starts at 9 p.m. at 657 Fairview Ave. SATURDAY, JUNE 25 Yoga: Backyard Yoga @ Houdini ($10) Houdini Kitchen Laboratory is known for their crispy and delicious single-serving pizza pies, but now, you can have your pizza and work it off at the same time! In their backyard, the restaurant is hosting yoga every Saturday through summertime. Class starts at 11:30 a.m. and is 60 minutes long, and requires that you to bring your own mat. Houdini is located at 1563 Decatur St., and the class is $10. Music: Fhloston Paradise @ Trans-Pecos ($15) This weekend is pride weekend, which means great things for weekend activities around Ridgewood. While you’re likely to stumble into some rainbow-clad bars and restaurants, if you really want to celebrate the hip way, make your way over to Trans-Pecos where “The Future is Tropical” and 10+ DJs await on two floors at Phloston Paradise. The show is $10, starts at 10 p.m., and is located at 915 Wyckoff Ave. Art: Unearthed @ Onderdonk House ($3) Richard Asbell has reinstalled the permanent exhibit “Unearthed at the Onderdonk House – Artifacts from the 1970s Archaeology Investigations” and added additional material including photos of the other colonial houses along Flushing Avenue. Onderdonk House is open Saturdays from 1 to 5 p.m. History and genealogy resource rooms are also open. Guided and self-guided tours are available. Suggested donation is $3 per person. Members of Ridgewood Historical Society as well as veterans and active service members get in for free. SUNDAY, JUNE 26 Learning: Basic First Aid Skill Share @ Woodbine (FREE) Join the Woodbine health resource center for an introduction to first-aid skills. Covering wound care, sprains, bee stings and Exercise is always more fun when you’re not doing it alone. Brookville Park will be hosting a family fun day Olympics. There will be soccer, relay races, prizes, a healthy eating demo, free health screenings and more! The field day will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, at 143-99 Brookville Blvd., Queens. other common ailments, they’ll help reinvigorate your common knowledge of the body and start a path toward putting practices of health back into our own hands. This event will be interactive and family friendly. The workshop is free and takes place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 1882 Woodbine St. Comedy: Comedy @ Bridge & Tunnel Brewery (FREE) Every last Sunday of the month, this Ridgewood-based brewery features live comedy. The event is free and you can sip on one of 12 drafts, featuring a Sour Porter run through a Cherry Rocket (“The Ridgewood Rocket”) or American Wheat Beer running through a Grapefruit Rocket! The brewery is located at 1535 Decatur St. MONDAY, JUNE 27 Cinema: Maysles Cinema Mondays presents Hawaiian: The Legend of Eddie Aikau @ Nowadays (FREE) Maysles Cinema in Manhattan is curating a pop-up non-fiction film series at outdoor beer garden Nowadays. This week features a documentary about Hawaiian surfer and legend Eddie Aikau (100 minutes) with a splash of Hawaiian cultural programming, too. Look forward to a traditional chant and hula dance before the movie. Grab a wine on draft and soak in the aloha! The admission is free and the screening starts at sundown. TUESDAY, JUNE 28 Learning: The History of Science: The Age of Enlightenment @ Nowadays ($10) Think Olio is a new lecture featuring series salon-style classes, taught by college professors at hip establishments, for people who want to expand their worldview. This week’s class, which is taught by Michael Haltenberger, focuses on Enlightenment ideology. The class costs $10 and starts at 7:30 p.m. at 56-06 Cooper Ave. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 29 Music: Gypsy Jazz @ The Keep (FREE) Every Wednesday the Avalon Jazz Band leads local musicians to spit some jazz tunes among the artful collection of junk and treasures that The Keep bar has on display.
