BWG teams enjoyed a successful holiday weekend
Memorial Day weekend proved
successful for members of
the Blau Weiss Gottschee
(BWG) program who competed in
various tournaments including
the 39 Massapequa Memorial Day
Tournament.
The 2009 BWG team captured the
fi rst place aft er winning games against
Barcelona, NY Hota Bavarians and CFS
North-Sportsworld. Meanwhile, the
2008 BWG team lost the fi nal against
Auburndale aft er fi nishing fi rst in the
group.
The 2007 and 2003 BWG squads
also took home fi rst-place prizes in
their respective divisions, while the
2004 BWG team lost in the fi nal of their
tournament.
On the developmental academy side,
the 2005 group faced TSF and Cedar
Stars in their regular season games in
New Jersey. The boys were victorious,
winning both games 3-2.
The 2005 BWG Academy team is
undefeated for the last six games, in
the process tying against Red Bulls,
playing with confi dence and looking
forward to fi nish the season this Sunday,
June 3, against their local rivals
the Met Oval Academy.

Go for a run through Forest Park to help fi ght pediatric cancer
You still have time to register
for this Saturday’s Forest Park
Four-Mile Classic, a unique
road race through the park to help
fi ght pediatric cancer.
The 26th annual event gets underway,
rain or shine, at 10 a.m. on June
2 at the Forest Park Victory Field
Track, located on Myrtle Avenue
just east of Woodhaven Boulevard.
Organized by the Forest Park
Runners, the race starts and ends
on the Victory Field track and takes
runners on a four-mile journey
through the paved and unpaved
paths of the wooded Forest Park.
Prizes will be awarded to the top
three male and female fi nishers.
Multiple water stations will be set
up along the course. Free parking
and bag check will be provided.
Refreshments will be served aft er
the race.
Proceeds from the event will be
donated to various charities supporting
the fi ght against pediatric
cancer.
