Despite dreary weather, residents
across Queens marked
Memorial Day weekend with
an array of parades and vigils honoring
the lives of those soldiers who
paid the ultimate price to defend our
country.
Community groups, active service
members, veterans organizations and
elected offi cials marched through the
streets of local neighborhoods on Sunday
and Monday, May 27-28, proudly
waving the American fl ag and paying
homage for the generations of Americans
who fought and died to protect
the republic and the freedom of its
people.

Along the way, they were greeted by
hundreds of fl ag-bearing spectators —
some carrying signs showing their
appreciation for the troops — who
cheered on the marchers, especially
those in uniform.
The 80th Ridgewood-Glendale Memorial
Day Parade featured marchers
from both neighborhoods walking a
mile along Myrtle Avenue. Memorial
services at the Ridgewood Veterans
Triangle and the Glendale Memorial
Triangle bookended the parade.
These pages show you just some of
the commemorations that took place.
