MPUS MPUS CK CAC CK CAOver the years, students at Christ the King High School, along with the charter school Middle Village Prep, have helped raise funds for the Middle Village Relay for Life through a bevy of charity events including bake sales and t-shirt sales, paint nights, student versus faculty basketball games, student fairs, and more. In April, CTK’s National Honor Society and Key Club hosted a Student Fair, where students participated in games, craft s, karaoke, and pie eating challenges. Proceeds from the fair — which totaled over $1,600 — will be going to the American Cancer Society through the Middle Village Relay for Life. The high school became involved with the Middle Village Relay for Life through its Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the CK Scholarship Committee, Bernie Helldorfer. Bernie and his wife, Linda, were at the kickoff meeting when the American Cancer Society brought Relay for Life to Middle Village, and have been part of it ever since. The day before the 2014 Relay event, Bernie was diagnosed with cancer. At the 2016 Relay, he was wheeled around the track at Juniper Valley Park since his mobility had been compromised due to his illness, yet he spent most of the night at the park, despite his weakened condition. In a show of support for Bernie, on the night of Dec. 8, 2016, Bernie’s CTK family, along with the Middle Village Relay Committee, neighbors, and friends went to his home, lit luminaries and Christ the King & MVP students help fi ght cancer with M.V.
