Owned by Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin, the DJs behind the popular Mister Saturday Night and Mister Sunday dance parties, Nowadays started as a seasonal beer garden that has a passion for music that sits on the border of Queens and Brooklyn (56-06 Cooper Ave.). Thanks to help from the community, Nowadays will now off er a permanent space for year-round entertainment. This summer, Nowadays will be opening a 5,000-square-foot indoor venue that will feature communal tables, a bar, a dance fl oor and a custom high-fi delity sound system created by SBS Designs. Nowadays will be hosting a variety of events throughout the summer. Patrons who come by Nowadays on Fridays and Saturdays can expect the night to be sound-tracked by some of the fi nest vinyl artists. Starting in July, the West Village art cabaret Le Poisson Rouge will host live concerts each Thursday night in the outdoor space. In addition to the musical happenings, Nowadays has a number of events to look forward to this summer. Every Saturday, Arrogant Swine will host a Carolina-style backyard pig roast during the weekly Nowadays ping-pong tournament. They will also host a Think Olio series of interdisciplinary classes on culture, the humanities and the arts and a Wednesday night fi lm series in partnership with Maysles Cinema. Patrons are invited to bring their children, and dogs are welcome in the yard on a leash. Students at I.S. 73 learn the importance of community organizations at 41st annual Law Day The Kiwanis Club of Maspeth sponsored their 41st annual Law Day at I.S. 73 in Maspeth on Friday, May 12, where representatives from local organizations toured the school with students and gave classes presentations on what they do and the services they provide for the community. The organizations that visited I.S. 73 were: the Kiwanis Club, 104th Precinct, Department of Sanitation, the New York State Assembly, Middle Village Ambulance Corp., Office of Emergency Management, Department of Environmental Conservation, NYPD Community Outreach, MTA Police, 104 Civilian Observation Patrol, FDNY Squad 288, the District Attorney’s office, and Customs and Border Patrol.
