Free bus trip to Calverton on Memorial Day week

in Glendale is sponsoring
its free annual bus trip
to Calverton National Cemetery on
Wednesday, May 29.
“Our fi rm has been running these
Memorial Day bus trips for over 25
years, giving our local residents a
chance to visit the graves of their loved
ones,” said the funeral home’s new
manager, Kirk Thompson. “Calverton
National Cemetery is quite a distance
from Glendale, which sometimes
makes it diffi cult for people to make
visits to the cemetery. This annual
event is the only time that some families
get to visit.”
Thompson noted that some in the
area were concerned if the trip would
continue following the merger last
year of George Werst and Glendale
Walsh-LaBella Funeral Homes. The
director, however, assured that the
trip will continue, “as it is our way to
honor the veterans who are interred
at Calverton.”
The bus will depart Werst & LaBella
Funeral Home, 71-41 Cooper Ave., at 8
a.m. on May 29. A box lunch, drinks
and snacks will be made available, as
well as fl oral bouquets to be placed at
graves. Participants will return from
Calverton in the late aft ernoon.
Seating is limited. To reserve a seat,
call Thompson or Tom Donnelly at
718-821-8777 during business hours,
Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m.
to 5 p.m. Please provide the section of
the grave you wish to visit.
