Local teens spend a day at the City Council Two Queens teens recently served as “Council Members for a Day” during the City Council Women’s Caucus event on March 31 at City Hall. Noor Ismail and Tiffany Arizaga shadowed City Councilwoman Elizabeth Crowley, getting a firsthand look at Crowley’s day-to-day duties at the City Council. They sat in on meeting with city leaders and participated in that day’s City Council stated meeting. Ismail is a senior at the Young Women’s Leadership School in Astoria, while Arizaga is a senior at Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood. They are pictured above with Crowley. Glendale Kiwanians donate to Relay for Life During their annual Polish Day meeting Thursday, the Kiwanis Club of Glendale presented a donation to the American Cancer Society representing its contributions to last year’s Middle Village Relay for Life at Juniper Valley Park. Celebrating Nepalese new year in Ridgewood The Nepalese American Youth Association held a new year’s celebration at Gottscheer Hall in Ridgewood on Friday night. The club members celebrated the dawn of the year 2072 on the Nepalese calendar. Assemblyman Mike Miller was among the honored guests at the occasion; he is pictured with executive members of the group. Fulfilling young girls’ PROMises in Ridgewood Scores of young girls got the prom dress of their dreams during the recent “Joan England’s PROMises” event at the Greater Ridgewood Youth Council. More than 420 new or lightly-used dresses were donated to the cause. Young girls in need of a dress came to the GRYC to pick one out. The remaining dresses were reportedly donated to John Adams High School in Ozone Park. Organizers thanked Moves and Motions Dance Studio and Pants Pantry for their assistance. A successful street fair in Forest Hills The 112th Precinct Community Council held its first street fair along Austin Street in Forest Hills on Sunday, which drew thousands of spectators from around the community.
