FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT www.qns.co APRIL 14, 2016 • TIMES 21 Ridgewood civic stands firm against Fresh Pond Road street festival BY SUZANNE MONTEVERDI editorial@qns.com @QueensCourier Keep those letters coming. Despite public assurances that the Fresh Pond Road Street Festival in Ridgewood is safe and should continue, the Ridgewood Property Owners and Civic Association (RPOCA) is continuing to battle for the four-day feast’s demise. Paul Kerzner, president of RPOCA, urged attendees at the group’s April 7 meeting to continue sending letters to Michael P. Carey, executive director of the Office of Citywide Events Coordination and Management, expressing their disapproval. “We have not heard yet from the mayor’s office about the issue of whether they’re going to permit the street festival on Fresh Pond Road,” Kerzner said. Complaints include street fair attendees parking in front of resident driveways, the Q58 reroute inconveniencing commuters, especially senior residents, and the heavy traffic which develops on major venues such as Metropolitan Avenue, Forest Avenue and 60th Street. “The point is that letters count,” said Kerzner. “And those of you who are directly affected by this — and that means anybody who lives either on Fresh Pond Road or within two blocks of Fresh Pond Road in either direction — you are directly affected by this.” Kerzner and attendees also referenced the recent Community Board 5 vote of 27-8 in opposition to approving a permit for the festival as an indicator of the community’s attitude toward the event. “It’s important that we get volume,” he continued. “It’s important to get numbers. And if we lose, it’s because not enough people opened their mouth when they had the opportunity.” PRE K for ALL • New York State Standards and Curriculum • New York State Certified Licensed Teachers • Class size limited to 18 students per class • Hands on Lear ning (Common Core Practices & Work Sampling) • Licensed by the NYC Department of Education Come in To Register NOW For Summer and September 2016 FREE Full Day Pre-k for ALL 9 am to 3:20 pm Whitestone Location only Precious Moments Offers: Infant and Toddler Day Care, Nursery School, Pre-K Classes And Bus Service. 2 to 5 Day Programs, Full or Half Day Available • Early Mor ning Drop-off and Extended Day Hours 7:30-am to 6pm at Af fordable Rates • Bus Service at Af fordable Rates • Fully Secured Premises • Parent Involvement • Easy Transition to Kindergarten Fabulous Appointed Classrooms Very Neat And Clean Environment Please call us for more details: 11-02 Clintonville Street Whitestone, New York (718) 767-6655 61-30 Grand Avenue, Maspeth, New York (718) 416-1624 RIDGEWOOD OFFICE PRODUCTS CENTER “YOUR ONE-STOP SHOP FOR ALL YOUR BUSINESS NEEDS” DISCOUNTED OFFICE FURNITURE • Space Planning • Interior Design & Layout • Safes/Shredders • Printing / Copies/ Fax Service • Blumberg Legal Forms/Leases • Wedding Invitations/ Foreign Languages 67-16 FRESH POND ROAD (Near M Station) 1-718-386-3266 QWIK PACK & SHIP Of Queens NY • Professional Packing • Domestic & International Shipping • Printing & Document Services • Fax Services • Freight & Air Cargo • Computer & Internet Access • Mailbox Rental • Retail & Specialty Items • Ofi ce/Business Services • Utility Bill Payment • Document Shredding • Document Scanning • Signs & Banners • Laminating • We Sell Boxes ONE LOCATION TO GET IT ALL DONE Whether you need a package to get there ASAP, or need a conveniently located business center with a knowledgable staff, we’re here for you.
