Glendale man busted with heroin, guns, fake police badges

A Glendale man was arrested on
Thursday aft er police raided
his home and found bags of
narcotics, fi rearms with ammunition,
a police radio, a fake police badge and
fake police identifi cation card.
According to court records, the
search warrant was executed on
March 22 at approximately 6:30 a.m.
at a home on 79th Lane near Myrtle Avenue,
where the defendant was found
lying in the front bedroom.
The defendant — Michael Swift , 42 —
is charged with criminal possession of
a controlled substance in the fi rst and
third degrees, three counts of criminal
possession of a weapon in the second
degree, three counts of criminal possession
of a weapon in the third degree,
three counts of criminal possession of
a fi rearm, two counts of criminal possession
of a forged instrument in the
third degree, criminal possession of a
controlled substance in the seventh degree,
unlawful possession of pistol or
revolver ammunition, unauthorized
possession of handcuff s and unlawful
possession of marijuana.
According to the 104th Precinct in
a post to their Twitter account, the
Queens North Narcotics team executed
the arrest.
The criminal complaint, provided by
the Queens District Attorney’s offi ce,
noted that Swift allegedly provided to
offi cers involved in the raid with the combination
to a safe in the front bedroom.
Inside the safe, authorities said,
police found plastic bags of heroin in
rock and powder form, a zip-lock bag

with marijuana, a pair of authentic
police handcuff s, one unloaded Cobra
Enterprises .380-caliber pistol and two
loose .380-caliber rounds. The heroin
inside the safe weighed out to more
than eight ounces, court records show.
As the search continued, detectives
also found a loaded Walther PK
.380-caliber pistol with seven rounds in
the magazine and a one loaded Taurus
Millennium PT 138 Pro .380-caliber
pistol with 11 rounds in the magazine.
They also recovered a forged NYPD
identifi cation card with the defendant’s
picture on it and a forged NYPD shield
from inside a box on the bottom shelf of
a television stand inside the bedroom.
More drugs were discovered inside
a drawer of an organizing bin in the
room, law enforcement sources said.
Detectives seized a plastic bag containing
70 glassine envelopes of heroin
and one tab of suboxone, according to
court records.
Police then found a box containing
33 rounds of .380-caliber bullets in the
closet along with a jacket containing
a bulletproof vest inside the lining,
records show. A police radio was also
found on the fl oor on the side of the
bed, according to court records.
Records show that Swift had been
arrested on March 11 for misdemeanor
harassment; in 2007, he was convicted
of illegal possession of vehicle identifi -
cation number.
Swift is currently being held on
$125,000 bond or $125,000 cash bail
and is due back in court on April 9.
Police also apprehended a female
individual who was lying down in a
rear bedroom; there were no immediate
details about any charges fi led
against her.

Good Friday Procession to
take place at St. Pancras
Local Catholics will commemorate
Good Friday with
their annual procession
through the streets of Glendale
on March 30.
Bishop Raymond Chappetto
will lead this year’s march, which
begins in front of St. Pancras
Church at 6:45 p.m. The march —
sponsored each year by the
Associazione Cattolica Italiana
Miraculous Medal di Ridgewood —
will include members from every
catholic parish in the community
as well as other Italian-American
and catholic organizations.

Good Friday is the most solemn
day on the Christian calendar, as
it marks the crucifi xion of Jesus
Christ ahead of his resurrection
on Easter Sunday. The procession
features a large glass coffi n in which
a statue of Jesus lies surrounded by
a bed of fl owers.
The march will head north from
St. Pancras Church to Central
Avenue, where they will take a left
and proceed west until they reach
Myrtle Avenue. The procession
will then head back east on Myrtle
Avenue and return to St. Pancras.
