MARCH 12 - MARCH 18, 2015 • TIMES 51 sports Maspeth High School boys basketball team advances to quarterfi nals BY ANTHONY GIUDICE [email protected] The Maspeth High School boys varsity basketball team stayed undefeated on March 4, surviving a tough challenge in the third round of the Public School Athletic League (PSAL) championship tournament. Playing on their home court, the Maspeth boys defeated the High School for Health Professionals and Human Services, 62-59. Senior guard Paolo Tamer led the way for Maspeth with an impressive triple-double, posting 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in the win. Team captain, senior guard/forward Damian Piszczatowski, dropped 12 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Maspeth earned a fi rst-round bye in the championship tournament by posting an undefeated record in the regular season, going 18-0. With this win, the boys have run their unbeaten streak to 20 games. Charity hockey game held in East Meadow Ferraro Brothers Team USA vs. Israel Photo courtesy Maspeth High School Twin Rinks of Eisenhower Park and Ferraro Brothers Hockey hosted a charity exhibition hockey game against the Israeli National team on Saturday, March 7, to benefi t the Ice Hockey Federation of Israel and its initiatives to develop the game of ice hockey in Israel. Team USA, led by co-captains Peter Ferraro and Chris Ferarro, defeated the Israeli National team 10-6 in front of a 1,000-plus crowd. Team members for the Ferraro Brothers’ Team USA included former NHL players Arron Asham, Radek Martinek, Steve Webb, Matt Gilroy, Matt Anderson and Edmonton Oilers Hall of Famer Glenn Anderson, to name a few. Team USA was coached by former New York Rangers star Ron Greschner and actor Joseph R. Gannascoli. Team Israel featured some of its longtime veterans including Tal Avneri, Sergei Frenkel, Daniel Spivak, Shlomi Levy, Itzik Levy and Daniel Mazour.
