Paying tribute to the
‘Cop of the Year’ in Maspeth
Scores of residents and police offi
cers in the Greater Ridgewood
area came to the Knockdown
Center on Feb. 28 for the 104th Precinct
Community Council’s annual “Cop of
the Year” dinner. The award this year
was presented to Police Offi cer Leonard
O’Toole, who joined the NYPD in
1990 and has spent his entire career
serving the Ridgewood-based 104th
Precinct in a variety of capacities.
O’Toole received awards from Deputy
Inspector John Mastronardi, commander
of the 104th Precinct, and Len
Santoro, president of the 104th Precinct
Community Council. He also earned
proclamations from local elected offi -
cials including Congresswoman Grace
Meng, Assemblyman Brian Barnwell
and City Councilman Robert Holden.
The community council also honored
the Kiwanis Club of Ridgewood
for serving as a community partner.
Elizabeth Fitzgerald, president of the
club, accepted honors from Santoro.
