BWG girls take home rst place in East Meadow tournament The Blau Weiss Gottschee (BWG) Girls U11 team won first place at East Meadow tournament with a rec ord of three wins and one tie. On their way to first place, the girls won against Rough Riders 2-1, Massapequa 2-0 and Plainedge 1-0 and tied against Bellmore 1-1. Queens College women’s track and eld ties for second in championships After a physically taxing meet, the Queens College women’s track and fi eld team tied for second at the Collegiate Track Conference Championships, while the men’s team fi nished in fi fth at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Sunday. The female Knights racked up 108 points in their second meet of the weekend, led by DaMira Banks and Terrilyn Britton’s sprinting prowess and senior Saralee Martelly, who dominated the fi eld events. Banks placed fi rst in the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes. In her 200-meter dash, she recorded a personal record of 25.50 seconds, while Britton fi nished not far behind in both events, placing second in the 60-meter with a time of 7.98 seconds, and third in the 200-meter dash in 25.94, her own personal best. Martelly stole the show in all three events she competed in on Sunday. The Belmont Abbey College transfer won the 60-meter hurdles by more than a second, and took the high and triple jump events both by wide margins. A particularly strong run, each of her fi ve converted leaps in the women’s triple jump would have placed her a spot ahead of her nearest competitor. Junior Ronsheica Trotman and senior Danely Rodriguez also performed well, with Trotman taking Silver in the women’s 400-meter dash in a new personal best of 59.63 seconds and Rodriguez converting 12.65 meters on her last heave in the weight throw, placing her in third. Individual highlights for the men’s team included fi rst place fi nishes by both John Martinez and Angel Alers- Rosario. Martinez took the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.67, crossing the fi nish line over a second before the second-place fi nisher. Meanwhile, Alers-Rosario took fi rst in the men’s weight throw with a toss that cleared 15.50 meters. Liam O’Connor placed third in the shot put and the weight throw. Senior Michael Camacho’s season best of 23.39 seconds earned him bronze in the men’s 200-meter dash. Juniors Skandal Delince and Jacob Lascano also contributed to the team’s 63 point total by taking fourth place in the 400-meter run and 800-meter run, respectively.
