Schott, who was part of the Maspeth Federal Savings board of directors for more than 40 years, died on Thursday, Feb. 11. Schott was first elected to the board of directors in August 1974; he also served on two separate occasions as president of the Kiwanis Club of Maspeth. Additionally, he served as a building maintenance consultant for Martin Luther School, was a past director of Wyckoff Heights Medical Center and senior warden of Elmhurst’s St. James Episcopal Church. Schott began his life of public service at St. James Church in 1939, becoming an active member at the church which he served as an altar boy. He would be elected to the church’s vestry 10 years later and, in 1964, was named the church’s warden. He held the position of senior warden for more than 20 years. A veteran of World War II, Schott served in the U.S. Navy and began working at his father’s home alteration business, Frank Schott & Son, in 1944. Eight years later, he founded Webster Schott Building Inc., which constructs and performs alterations on commercial buildings, industrial buildings and private homes. Schott is survived by his wife Janina. A funeral Mass was offered on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at St. James Episcopal Church, Elmhurst, followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, under the direction of Hess Miller Funeral Home, 64-19 Metropolitan Ave., Middle Village. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Schott’s name to Martin Luther School, 60-02 Maspeth Ave., Maspeth, NY 11378; or the Shelter Island Webster Foundation, 69-37 50th Ave., Woodside, NY 11377.
