CATHERINE FRANCIS
(KITTY) CAREY died on Saturday,
February 9, at the age of 93. She
was a lifelong resident of Bay Ridge,
Brooklyn and Maspeth, and was
the daughter of the late Daniel and
Helen Carey. She was sister of the
late Dennis, Daniel and William
Carey, and Sister Ann Edmund,
CSJ and Sister Helen Gerard, CSJ.
She is survived by sister-in-law
Ruth Carey (nee Hall) and was a
cherished aunt of 82 nieces and

who were blessed to have her in
their lives and will be forever
grateful for the memories they
had with her. Carey retired aft er
more than 25 years as corporate
secretary at Asarco (American
Smelting and Refi ning Company).
She was a longtime member
Eucharistic minister and member
of the St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish
in Maspeth. A wake was held on
Monday, February 11, and Tuesday,
February 12, at Hess-Miller Funeral
Home, 64-19 Metropolitan Ave.,
Middle Village. A Mass of Christian

Sunday, February 3, at the age of
67. Born in eastern Puerto Rico on
November 8, 1951, and raised in
Spanish Harlem and the Bronx, she

was a dedicated early childhood
teacher with the NYC Department
of Education for more than 37 years.
