Stray Bullet Hits Man On Walk In Rego Park by Robert Pozarycki Heading back home after an early-morning trip to the drug store, a 30-year-old man was hit with a stray bullet at a Rego Park intersection last Tuesday morning, Jan. 13, law enforcement sources reported. According to police, the shooting took place at 2 a.m. at the intersection of Saunders Street and 63rd Drive. Reportedly, the victim walked with friends to the location following a visit to a local pharmacy. Shortly after arriving at the intersection, police said, the group heard as many as six gunshots fired by an unidentified perpetrator from a block away at the corner of 63rd Avenue and Booth Street. One of the bullets struck and went through the victim’s right shoulder, law enforcement sources stated. Officers from the 112th Precinct and EMS units responded to the scene. Paramedics brought the victim to Elmhurst Hospital Center for treatment of injuries that were not considered life-threatening. No other injuries were reported. Various police units canvassed the area for evidence and possible suspects, but no immediate arrests were made, authorities noted. The 112th Precinct Detective Squad is continuing its investigation, police said. Passenger Dies In Crash On Nassau Expressway by Robert Pozarycki A 22-year-old woman lost her life in South Ozone Park last Tuesday morning, Jan. 13, after being involved in a crash on the Nassau Expressway, police reported. Law enforcement sources said the one-car accident occurred at 3:19 a.m. last Tuesday along the expressway near the John F. Kennedy Airport exit. According to information obtained by police, 22-year-old Patina Deygoo of Hommell Street in Valley Stream, L.I. rode in the rear of a 2010 Nissan two-door sedan operated by a 26-year-old woman. A third woman, also 26, sat in the front passenger seat. Detectives stated the vehicle, while traveling eastbound on the roadway, suddenly veered off the pavement near the exit and slammed into a tree. Officers from the 106th Precinct and EMS units rushed to the scene. Deygoo, who sat n the rear, was pronounced dead at the location. Both the driver and front passenger were rushed to local hospitals and were listed in critical and stable condition, respectively. The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad’s inquiry into the accident is ongoing, police said.
