WORLD’S FAIR MARINA
The only full-service marina run the NYC Parks Department, the
World’s Fair Marina is the city’s most-trafficked public water
facility with a 1.5-mile promenade located along Flushing Bay.
It is separated from Citi Field and the northern edge of Flushing
Meadows Corona Park by the Whitestone Expressway.
Built as a boat basin for the 1939 World’s Fair, the marina was
expanded for the 1964 World’s Fair and it now houses public
rowing clinics, water safety, fishing, marine ecology, and oyster
cages. The facilities include a fuel dock with vessel provisioning,
snack shop, and kayak rentals operated via concession; vessel
hauling with storage and 50-ton capacity mobile boat hoist;
vessel maintenance and repair, including self-servicing of the
Parks Department’s eight-vessel fleet;·free vessel pump-out; free
public boat ramp.
The estimated annual dockage is 300 private recreational vessels,
400 visiting transient vessels, 12 Dragon Boat vessels and
community sailing programs, 10 public charter fishing and event
vessels, Seastreak and NY Water Taxi ferries, and educational
and historic tall ships
